Therapeutic Massage vs Relaxation Massage:

There are two kinds of massage: Therapeutic and Relaxation. Both are very beneficial and effective, but have a very different purpose. Here at Canyon Chiropractic, our primary focus is on Therapeutic Massage to get you functioning your best.

DIFFERENCES:

Typically, you'll find relaxation massage at a spa, either as a service of on its own or as part of a "spa day" package that includes other services like paraffin, manicures or facials. The massage will be pleasurable and relaxing, but don't expect detailed discussion of your health needs. Also, the people providing massages at a spa may not be qualified to assist with health needs and goals.

If you have particular health needs, therapeutic massage is likely more suitable. Often health care professionals recommend it for injuries and pain, or after a competitive sports event or intense workout. Treatment often takes place in a clinic setting. It may also be combined with physiotherapy or chiropractic care if that is appropriate for your needs.

THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE TREATS PAIN AND MANY OTHER HEALTH NEEDS, INCLUDING:

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Headaches
  • Osteoarthritis/Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Muscle Spasms
  • Back/Neck Pain
  • Respiratory Problems
  • Pregancy Related Problems
  • Sports Injuries
  • TMJ
  • Tendonitis
  • Palliative Care

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Your massage therapist, SHARON SHAPIRO, with over 25 years of experience, will ask you to complete a questionnaire about your health needs and will sit down with you to discuss you goals. She will perform the Therapeutic Massage in a private room, and will provide you with specific stretches or exercises to help your specific case. Depending upon your needs, we will discuss future appointments with you to help you maximize your results and obtain optimal benefit from your treatments. (You may need weekly or bi-weekly appointments in order to effectively treat your problems).

We encourage your questions and your input as we work with you to optimize your experience so you get exactly what your body needs. This will help ensure your treatment is effective.
